Note: In the interest of keeping travel costs to a minimum, we recommend that all training participants stay at the training site hotel. In addition to the discounted corporate room rate, to all guests staying at the hotel, Homewood Suites offers a complimentary breakfast buffet seven days a week and a dinner buffet Monday through Thursday. This is an offer that results in substantial savings.

When making hotel reservations, please mention that you will be attending "MST training" in order to receive the reduced rates of $110/night (Sun-Thurs) and $145/night (Fri-Sat).

1. Start out going WEST on INTERNATIONAL BLVD toward AIR CARGO LN.
2. Stay straight to go onto AIR CARGO LN.
3. AIR CARGO LN becomes INTERNATIONAL BLVD.
4. Merge onto I-526 EAST via the ramp on the left – toward I-26
5. Travel I-526 EAST for approximately 13 miles
6. Take the US-17 NORTH exit toward GEORGETOWN
7. Turn LEFT onto US-17 NORTH / US-701 NORTH / GEORGETOWN HWY.
8. Turn RIGHT onto SC-517 (ISLE OF PALMS CONNECTOR)
9. Go through 2 traffic lights and take the next RIGHT onto RIVIERA DRIVE (this is the 2nd entrance to Seaside Farms). HOMEWOOD SUITES is on the RIGHT.

Orientation Training Overview
Charleston, SC
Training Fee: $850/person

This orientation training is designed for all clinical staff who engage in the treatment and/or clinical supervision of MST cases, as well as those in support and administrative roles for MST programs. Attendees will receive instruction in the following areas:

  • systems theories, social learning theory, and major psychological and sociological models;
  • research regarding serious emotional disturbance in youth;
  • research relevant to problems experienced by targeted youth (e.g., learning disabilities, substance abuse); and,
  • research on interventions used in MST (e.g., empirically validated family and marital therapy approaches, parenting behavioral training, cognitive behavior therapy, school consultation).
Additionally, the training utilizes role-plays and exercises designed to stimulate critical thinking about the treatment process and to demonstrate how MST informs the following:

  • client engagement;
  • individual, family, and systems-level assessments;
  • the evaluation of what evidence therapists use to draw conclusions about the correlates/causes of a problem;
  • the development of intervention strategies and specific interventions; and
  • how to determine whether an intervention is being effective.
